This research project purposes ascertain the possible poetic inspiration of Johann Gottfried von Herder (Mohrungen, Oriental Prussia, 1744 - Weimar, Thuringia, 1803), due to his neologism of "folk song" and his never thought perspective about the illiterate people’s songs valorization’s, present in Domingos Caldas Barbosa’s literary work, Viola de Lereno, which inaugurates Brazilian popular music. Through the comparison of the corpus research, we seek to understand the poetic-musical-philosophical connection between the East Prussian poet and philosopher and the librettist and poet from Rio de Janeiro, to learn the neologism of Volkslied, which was born with Herder, and established in the spirit of Viola de Lereno, a literary work distinct from Lereno's production.
