Abstract

This article exposes the use of rhetorical figures in the 1st Matin responsory and commendation of the dead, by José Maurício Nunes Garcia, emphasizing that these resources were applied with the purpose of elaborating an eloquent and persuasive musical statement. The methodology used is based on analyses of musical rhetoric elements related to the text, harmony and placement of the musical discourse, presented in some examples.

  • Eliel Almeida Soares, Universidade de São Paulo

    Eliel Almeida Soares é graduado em Música (2008), mestre (2012) e doutor (2017) em Musicologia pelo Departamento e Programa de Pós-Graduação em Música da Escola de Comunicações e Artes da Universidade de São Paulo (ECA-USP), todos sob a orientação do prof. dr. Diósnio Machado Neto. Faz parte do Laboratório de Musicologia (Lamus) do Departamento de Música da Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras de Ribeirão Preto da Universidade de São Paulo (FFCLRP/USP), onde desenvolve averiguações acerca das estruturas discursivas na música colonial brasileira. Também possui diversos trabalhos publicados sobre retórica musical.
