Abstract

Among the great challenges posed for the future of humankind, the issue of water is of paramount importance, as it is a scarce resource essential for human survival, for maintaining ecosystems, and which serves as input to all productionrelated activities. This paper deals with the issue globally and centers its focus on Brazil´s distinctive features. It highlights key challenges to overcome, such as the difficulties for human and industrial supply, the growing water demand for food production, for energy generation, and possible impacts of climate change on water resources
