The social inclusion of people with disabilities is a process requiring both empowerment and social transformations, so as to provide them with opportunities for a full social participation. Its effectiveness is closely linked to shifts in paradigms, stereotypes and prejudices. That can be made possible through formal education, the media, and social and cultural phenomena able to contribute towards modifying or sustaining moral values such as sport, for example. The main aim of this essay is to offer a reflection on way paralympic athletes are portrayed by the media during the Paralympic Games, and the result of such interaction on spectators. The conclusion is that athletes want to be viewed as productive and efficient people, just like any other citizen.Downloads
