Abstract

The ar ticle intends to investigate the hypothesis according to which the discomfort related to politically correct language is a result from not understanding the democratic sense of freedom of expression. Starting from some commonplaces, we tried to show that up to now, controversy prevails and not the discussion on the subject, because the actors who feel affected by the language of prejudice cannot take part in the public sphere of debate, and those who manage to do it don’t join it on the same conditions as those who have already been there. Therefore, there is a topology of exclusion that needs to be considered and also transformed so as to establish a real debate on this issue.
