Abstract

This article offers a testimonial about the friendship between João Baptista Borges Pereira, Emeritus Professor from the Anthropology Department of the University of São Paulo, and Antonio Candido, since their first contact in 1955 − when Borges Pereira was taking the entrance exam for Social Sciences at USP, and Antonio Candido was the examiner assessing his writing test − up to their conversation over the phone the day before Candido died in 2017
