Our objective is to analyze the gender issue from the persistent and chronic sexual division of labor in the labor market. To do so, we propose a reflection on the experience of a male hairdresser and a female stevedore in Quebec (Canada). Thereby, we seek to bring visibility on the sexual division of labor which embodies a certain dynamics and hierarchy between genders. Despite all the theorizing on gender, the issue is often still thought in terms of sex in a binary way, as a simple consequence of biological sex.
