The article analyses the impact of the health crisis provoked by the covid-19 pandemic in Brazil, and the “response” to the crisis given by Bolsonaro governmenton the citizen’s trust on the government. The analysis is based on the “Values in Crisis” panel (June 2020 and February 2021) and explores the e ects of some aspects, as the fear of pandemic, the perceptions about the perspectives for the future of the country, the trust in social media and the political polarization. The results point to the strong e ect of the right-wing ideological self-placement, besides the trust on social media and the perception of the positive impact of the crisis to the country. Those findings suggest the adherence of the interviewees to denialism and the authoritarian attitudes of the president that stimulate the polarization and political confrontation.
