Clinical manifestations and treatment of infections caused by herpes simplex 1 and 2 viruses

Herpes simplex viruses are known by mankind since the antiquity. These viruses are responsible for a number of diseases ranging from cutaneous lesions to severe cases of encephalitis. Nowadays, a specific antiviral, acyclovir, has been available for treatment of herpes simplex virus infections. This review discusses the use of acyclovir according to the clinical manifestations of herpes virus infections.
