Objective: compare the sun exposure habits of middle-aged and older Brazilian people. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study, realized with 148 middle-aged and older Brazilian people. A questionnaire was used to assess the sociodemographic and health profile, assess skin care habits, and assess knowledge about the possible damages of excessive sun exposure. Data were analyzed using Pearson’s Chi-square test (X2) (p < 0.05). Results: The research participants, for the most part, do not have an occupation that requires sun exposure (74.3%), perceive themselves with skin of phototype 1 and 2 (48.0%), expose themselves to the sun occasionally (47.2%) and from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (50.6%), use sunscreen on the face occasionally/daily (70.9%), use sunscreen on the body occasionally (56.1%), choose the brand of the protector from the indication/brand (67.5%). There was a higher frequency of older people who are exposed to the sun daily/occasionally and before 4:00 p.m. (p = 0.035). Conclusion: It is concluded thatthere was a predominance of occupations that do not require significant sun exposure, with most individuals choosing to be exposed to the sun mainly in leisure times, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Interestingly, older adults demonstrated a tendency towards more regular sun exposure, especially before 4:00 p.m., compared to younger participants.
