In the first part of this review, we discuss general strategies to treat exogenous intoxications (vomit induction, gastric lavage, administration of activated charcoal powder and of laxatives) and specific measures to eliminate toxic agents (forced diuresis and urine alkalinization, hemodialysis and hemoperfusion and utilization of antagonists). In the second part we discuss general principles of treatment of most prevalent intoxications in our area (agricultural pesticides, central nervous system depressants and rat poisons).
