Periodização e Práticas Antiescravistas na Cidade de São Paulo (1850-1871)

Abstract

This article argues that the periodization predominant in the historiography of abolition has somehow limited the studies regarding the first emancipationist experiences practiced by anti-slavery societies. By privileging the final moments of the abolition, the historiographical studies have left behind the initial trajectory of the abolitionist movement performed throughout the decades of 1850, 1860 and 1870.
