The text analyzes historical aspects of the film Madina Boé (1968), directed by José Massip and financed by the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry and by the Organization of Solidarity with the People of Asia, Africa and Latin America. The documentary describes the organization of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC) and the group’s attack on Portugal’s military base in Madina, Boé region, in Portuguese Guinea (future Guinea-Bissau). We believe that the film expresses different enunciations that aim at the independence of Guinea and legitimize the armed actions by PAIGC and its leader, Amílcar Cabral.
