The aim of this essay is to establish a relationship between literature and cinema by analyzing scenes and sound effects of Sanshū Dayū (Sansho the bailiff, 1954) by the Japanese director Kenji Mizoguchi, since the screenplay of the film was written from the homonymous novel by Ogai Mori. To that end, I will highlight the importance of the articulation between the naming of the characters and the word (sung and writing) in the assembly of this classic of the Japanese cinema.Downloads
