This review presents the recent book by the professor and researcher of the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), Angela Prysthon (2022), Retrato das margens: do terceiro cinema ao cinema periférico, published by Pontes Editores, in which the author rediscusses the place occupied by the Latin American third cinema and peripheric cinema – with special attention to Argentina and Brazil, but also focusing on the Portuguese, French, Spanish, Palestinian, among other cinemas –, in the debate and the history of the recent global cinema, from a reinterpretation of Culture Studies, in the relationship of realism with different cultures represented by cinema as a whole, with emphasis in a certain peripheric cosmopolitism.
