This study focuses on the first documentary films by Argentine director Alejandro Fernández Mouján, which address the problems in the Chaco region in Argentina due to neoliberal advance. Its analysis stresses the dialogues these films establish with each other based on the recurrence of certain audiovisual motifs and the use of the archival apparatus. Considering the director’s career, this study also addresses the way in which the narrative search in these films navigates the themes and aesthetics of environmental cinema without losing its interest in the Argentine and Latin American social documentary tradition.
