Abstract

Lafetá’s study focuses on “the familiar romance” as a latent structure in Caetés masterpiece. From the analysis of retardation, a narrative procedure recognized as basic in the masterpiece, the critic goes through the observation João Valério’s narrator-character wish projections, an aspect that was studied by Lamberto Puccinelli. Lafetá incorporates into his Caetés masterpiece reading, Freud’s and Marthe Roberts's concepts, the first talking about neurotic familiar romance and the second understood as the romance in its origins and as the romance about origins
