This essay discusses the formation of the hero and the possibilites and difficulties of modern institutions being incorporated by archaic customs. The author shows how the narrative of Guimarães Rosa explores this battle between the modern and the archaic in the portrayal o f his characters and how it also discloses an allegorization of Brazil
