O rastro do caracol: o dilema da identidade em Bernardo Carvalho

Abstract

Nine Nights is one of the main retakes of indianistn in the contemporary Brazilian literature. The novel associates in a surprising way the discussion about an important topic to the national history with the universalist spirit and “the feeling of belonging to nowhere”, that are considered by Bernardo Carvalho as a part of his work. Why did he decide to go down into the hell of his own roots? How does Nine Nights represent the confrontation of an ashamed identity? This article analyses some impasses experimented by the author in this difficult return to the origins
