Resumo

A esclerose múltipla é uma doença neurológica crônica de origem desconhecida, caracterizada por lesões axonais e áreas de desmielinização do sistema nervoso central. Nessa doença, a incapacidade física e uma série de sintomas estão relacionados ao comprometimento de sistemas funcionais e ao desuso. O tratamento geralmente inclui o uso de imunomoduladores e imunossupressores, que são capazes de retardar, mas não interromper sua progressão. Nas duas últimas décadas, programas incluindo exercícios de fortalecimento muscular, exercícios aeróbios, atividades em meio aquático e ioga têm se mostrado seguros e eficazes para pessoas com esclerose múltipla. A partir de revisão bibliográfica, discutiremos essas pesquisas e seu impacto em aspectos relevantes da doença como as alterações da força muscular, fadiga, espasticidade, depressão e a reação anormal ao calor.
