Abstract

The objectives of this study were to search for more knowledge about sexual satisfaction in people with spinal injury, considering that the results will contribute to professional action at the process of rehabilitation. Medular injury is a problem of social health and demands efforts for the matter of prevention and rehabilitation. Persons with such problems may present emotional, autonomic, sensitive and motor disturbances in a major or minor degree and thus the sexuality, the sexual act and the function of it may go through changes, varying the intensity according to the case. To study the theme an investigation about sexual satisfacion was done with individuals with medular injury, who were going or had already gone through a program of rehabilitation at Divisão de Medicina de Reabilitação – HCFMUSP, showing the following results: 60% related to be sexual satisfied, 25% didn’t know what to say and 15% declared themselves dissatisfied. The majority of “satisfied ones” had already finished the process of rehabilitation while the greater number of those who didn’t know what to say were going through the program, a year approximately by the time the research was done. It was possible to conclude that, sexual as well as physical rehabilitation is a process which goes over many stages and may lead to an effective sexual readaptation depending upon the elaboration and transposing of this phases.
