International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health as a technology in occupational health care: an integrative review

The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) is considered a health care tool, with a perspective of comprehensive and multidisciplinary assistance, considering functional capabilities and social engagement of individuals. Objective: To identify and analyze the use of the ICF as a care technology in worker health care. Method: integrative literature review. Using four descriptors in Portuguese, English and Spanish, we searched for articles in the LILACS, Pubmed and SciELO databases, published between 2013 and 2023, following the PRISMA recommendation. Results: Of the total of 77 articles, the selection ended in 12 articles. Following the Content Analysis, the results were divided and analyzed into two thematic fields, which highlighted the use of the ICF in different illness situations and with different segments of workers. The other thematic field indicated the implementation of scales and instruments based on the ICF, applied to mental health, rehabilitation, workers with disabilities and chronic clinical illnesses, identifying functionalities, barriers and facilitators in maintaining employment and the work environment. Conclusion: The ICF constitutes a worker health care technology, improving assistance and also the work processes of professionals who serve workers in the most diverse services.
