This article discusses some aspects of Polish poet Wisława Szymborska’s poetry, winner of the 1996 Nobel Prize in Literature. With a very discreet personal profile, Szymborska is concerned, as all great poets, with a poetic form that questions human uncertainties before the world. From a philosophical perspective, she reverses the place of non-knowledge to expand a worldview outside the established, normalized, and widespread patterns. Among the three collections of poems translated into Brazilian Portuguese, this article focused mainly on those chosen for her book People on a Bridge: Poems (1987), some of which are included in the Brazilian edition Poemas (2011).
