Developing technological solutions for the population in the form of products is a process that must articulate several factors, such as: users, their needs, the context in which the product is used and the materials and technologies available for its construction. The product designer bridges these factors through methodologies that lead and link activities in the Product Development Process (PDP). Prototyping is one of these activities, which makes it possible to test practical aspects of artifacts and, therefore, favors improvements and adaptations. In this sense, as the product is designed considering its manufacturing and assembly process, an approach known as Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA), the PDP is favored. This study demonstrates how the application of DFMA in the prototyping process of a technological device created for Primary Health Care, favored its development and improvement during the pandemic, in a limited scenario, especially regarding access to raw materials and the labor. The results suggest that the application of DFMA in innovation projects, which seek to create physical products, contributes not only to the reduction of project costs and time but also to its feasibility in situations with material and technological restrictions.
