About the Journal
Main Goal and Scopus
The Revista da Biologia is a scientific journal created as a result of an initiative of academics of different brazilian universities, aimed to the communication of studies in the different fields of Biology, with no costs for authors and readers. We accept submissions in english and portuguese, although we highly recommend that the authors publish their findings in english. The manuscripts will be submitted to peer-review. The manuscript will be published immediately after the editorial process is finished. Starting in the second semester of 2018, the journal will publish in current flow, extinguishing the past format of semestral volumes.
Our journal has three main goals: 1) to promote the scientific commucation through a non-cost publication; 2) to create a bridge of knowledge between the academic community and the non-academic community; and 3) to enable undergraduate and graduate students in the scientific writing and revision.
Didactic aspects and text intended for scientific communication are valued by the Revista.
To garantee the quality of the published material, peer-review is promoted with the use of reviewer and authors avaliation forms.
We ensure that our journal does not retain any copyright and that these are exclusive of the author(s) of the text. In that sense, we intend to break any restrictions to the published material and to achieve more intensely our goal of communicating science.
Revista da Biologia is indexed in the databases Google Scholar, Latindex (18884), Dedalus (001710215) and CrossRef (DOI 10.7594).

Peer Review Process
The author who inteds to publish his(her) work in this journal must submit it to double peer review, in case of discrepancy between the reviewers (one positive and one negative for publication), the manuscript will be sent for a third reviewer for another appreciation. The Editors-in-chief of each field will be in charge of the first revision of the manuscript for appreciation if it follows the journal guidelines and instructions, and then send it to the Section Editor, according to the research field that best fits the proposed article. The Section Editor will be in charge of sending the manuscript for revision to: two or more maester students, doctorate students or doctors in the field, that will act as reviewers. The choice of the reviewer will also consider his or her academic history. The editors will not choose for revision of the manuscripts any one that belongs to the same research group of the author(s) of the proposed article. Each reviewer will have access to a detailed avaliation form that intends to guide the revision by the reviewers and help through the validity of the produced review. All texts will be reviewed by double-blind avaliation, meaning the reviewers do not have access to the name of the authors and vice-versa. The reviewers, which are specialists in the subject fild, will analyse the manuscript regarding its scientific quality (relevance of the presented results, adequacy to the methodology in respect to the proposed objective, theoretical background and quality of the discussion) and language (for both english and portuguese texts). The author is entirely responsible for the grammar revision of the manuscript. Once the revision process if finalized, the editorial council will make the final decision relating to the publication of the manuscript. The final decision could be: accepted, accepted with modifications (major or minor) or declined.
