Ernst Haeckel formulated and developed a proposal for the evolutionary morphology in which the concept of monera occupies a central place. The moneras are to him the simplest and most primitive organisms, from which it is possible to investigate the transition from inorganic to the organic, the initial basis for the whole evolution and development of living beings and the emergence of organic individuality. In this paper are presented some of the central elements of the Haeckel’s concept of monera and some issues relating to his concept of organic individuality in the light of his studies of monerasDownloads
