This text presents a set of reflections on life at school, drawing on Donald W. Winnicott’s contributions on the environment and cultural experiences and focusing on what happens in class. Based on some of this author’s writings, we reflect on the classroom as an environment that may or may not be conducive to cultural experiences. It is argued that this possibility depends on creating favorable conditions for the emergence of what Winnicott designates as potential space, which corresponds to an intermediary region between the subjective world and the objectively perceived world. A possibility is considered for creating in the classroom an environment that is favorable to transitional cultural experiences, that is, experiences that simultaneously unite and separate us from others and from the shared world.
