Abstract

Five of the 11 samples of irrigation water taken from vegetable gardens of the city of S. Paulo, submitted to virological examination, gave positive results for the following enteroviruses: poliovirus-1, poliovirus-3, Coxsackie virus A16 and Coxsackie virus A7. The resin method rendered the highest yield of isolations in comparison with the unconcentrated method. The isolation of enteroviruses from irrigation waters reflects the unsatisfactory conditions of the same and emphazises the sanitary aspect of this problem.
