The Seasons, Petr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Epigraphs, Russian-Portuguese translationAbstract
The present article deals with the translation of epigraphs, which accompany the twelve pieces of The Seasons, a musical composition, written by the Russian composer Pyotr Ilyitch Tchaikovsky. The translation work has two purposes. One is to bring closer a musical artistic perception of The Seasons to its linguistic-emotional image in order to deepen the associative musical sensation. The other is to throw light of scholars of the Russian literature and, in particular, of the Russian poetry upon poets and poems of the 19th century, constituting important poetic references of the Russian contemporary literature as a whole. The translation of the epigraphs into Portuguese is original and accompanied by brief references to the authors, the dates and the titles of complete versions of the poems, from which the epigraphs were extracted, as well as to the sources of the publications of the translated epigraphs.
