Modernos e modernistas de uma mocidade morta no esquecimento

Este trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar, através da análise do romance Mocidade Morta (1900), de Gonzaga Duque, as discussões ocorridas no Brasil sobre o academicismo e antiacademicismo, principalmente o levado a cabo pelas artes plásticas no Império. No que tange o antiacademicismo, também importa inseri-lo em uma tradição que, ao contrário do que se supunha, não teria nascido da inspiração das vanguardas europeias do século XX, nem com o Modernismo brasileiro, mas de um debate que se instalou dentro do Brasil no início da República.
