THE ARTICLE SEKS TO UNDERSTAND THE ARTISTIC AND POLITICAL RELATIONS BETWEEN MURILO MENDES AND GUIGNARD IN THE CONTEMPLATION OF OURO PRETO. BOTH DECONSTRUCT THE CITY IN ITS MONUMENTAL QUALITIES, TURNING IT INTO RUIN FOR THE SAKE OF BEING ABLE TO REVISIT THE HISTORICAL CITY POETICALLY. IN THIS RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE ARTIST, SOCIETY AND STATE, AESTHETIC NEUTRALITY IS DISQUALIFIED, CONSIDERING THAT THE ACTIVITIES OF ART AND LITERARY CRITICISM ACT POLITICALLY AS REVISIONS OF THE CONCEPTS OF MEANING AND VALUE.
