Based on the insights of Silviano Santiago in O homossexual astucioso [The Astute Homosexual] and Antonio Candido in Dialética da malandragem [The Dialectics of the Con Man], this article tries to articulate the transgressive, multivalent and nonwestern components of Brazilian culture and deconstruct the dichotomous pattern that regulates gender roles, sexuality and the representations of the homosexual body in two Brazilian films: Madame Satã (2002), directed by Karim Aïnouz, and Marcelo Lafitte’s Elvis & Madonna (2011).Downloads
