In light of scholars such as Stuart Hall, Albert Memmi, Kagenguele Munanga and others, this paper proposes an analysis of the central female characters of the novel O alegre Canto da Perdiz by Mozambican writer Paulina Chiziane. In the present reading we considerate Mozambique’s recuperation of its history and cultural memory regarding the colonial regime and the decolonization process. In this sense, we privilege the analysis of two representations connected to such processes: the assimilated woman and the sacralized woman in the image of Mother Africa.
