The article describes how the plot of Bom crioulo, a novel written by Adolfo Caminha in 1895, disrupts naturalist fiction’s scientism and objectivity. In the representation of a love triangle, constituted by the characters Amaro, D. Carolina and Aleixo, we will see highly figurative motives that reveal the desire from the first two characters to be Aleixo’s guardian. Those motives will also indicate how Aleixo’s beauty and youth is unfathomable and deeply imaginary.
