THIS SHORT PAPER REFLECTS ON HOW THE IDEA OF MULTIPLICITY AFFECTS LITERARY STUDIES IN BRAZIL TODAY. TAKEN AS THE STRONGEST COMMON PLACE OF THE FIELD, THIS ASSOCIATION BETWEEN LITERATURE WITH THE MULTIPLE IS COMBINED WITH A BELIEF THAT THE FORMER IS INHERENT GOOD, AND THAT THE PLURAL IS INHERENTLY DEMOCRATIC, ETHICALLY POSITIVE. THIS GENERATES EFFECTS THAT IMPOVERISH THE INTERPRETATIVE PROCESS AND ULTIMATELY MAKE THE STUDY OF LITERATURE RESEMBLE THE FORM OF COMMODY CIRCULATION IN TODAY'S CAPITALISM.Downloads
