Objective: Analyze the epidemiological profile of patients with cerebral palsy treated at the Instituto de Medicina Física e Reabilitação do Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo from January 2020 to June 2023, delimiting the main causes and associated complications. Method: This is a retrospective observational quantitative clinical study with a chart review, examining factors such as age, gender, etiology, motor pattern, tonus, GMFCS, complications, and assistive technologies. Results: The study sample consisted of 74 patients, with a predominance of the age group between 3 to 5 years (52.2%) and male gender (54.7%). Regarding classification, we observed a higher prevalence of the tetraparesis motor pattern (57.4%), spastic tonus (94%), and predominance of the functional classification GMFCS level V (40.6%). Concerning etiology, we noticed that the main cause was birth asphyxia (neonatal anoxia) (41.3%), followed by prematurity (26.7%) and congenital malformations (10.7%). The main complications related to cerebral palsy observed were visual impairment (47%), seizures (26.8%), and hip subluxation (22.9%). Regarding assistive technologies, the main ones prescribed were: ankle-foot orthosis (prescribed for 72.9% of patients), wheelchair (58.1%), and shower chair (44.6%). Conclusion: Brazil lacks data on the epidemiological profile of children with cerebral palsy. Thus, the aim of the study was to describe the epidemiological profile of these patients at our rehabilitation center, in order to contribute to a better understanding of this population for more assertive decision-making in care and rehabilitation.
