Abstract

Cerebral palsy (CP) is primarily a neuromotor disorder that affects movement development, muscle tone, and posture. Children with CP may present sensory-motor impairments that can impact the execution of upper limb movements, affecting daily living activities. The Manual Ability Classification System (MACS) describes how children with CP use theus hands to manipulate objects. Objective: To evaluate whether children with CP classified at levels I and II on the MACS scale show differences in learning a reaching and manipulation skill. Method: Case report that includes 2 children with CP, both 4 years old, classified at levels I and II on the MACS scale. A training session was conducted for a reaching and manipulation task. Variables included execution time of sequences, average time within blocks, and the first attempt as pre-test and the last attempt as post-test measures. Results: The child with CP classified at level I on the MACS scale there was a significant improvement in the reach and manipulation task, with a reduction of 35.53%, in contrast, the child classified at level II did not show a reduction in execution time but rather a 4.76% increase. Conclusion: The child with MACS level I had better performance on the task when compared to the child with MACS level II.
