For an implication of the family in the clinic of “phonological disorders”

Abstract

In the literature on the “phonological disorders”, two approaches involve the family in their reflections: in the first, based on the behaviorism, parents take the role of co-therapists, and their task is to provide feedback; in the second, based mainly on personality theories, their attitudes and representations are linked to the etiology of these symptoms. The development of a third conception is proposed here, based on the articulation between speech therapy and psychoanalysis, aiming primarily at welcoming the discourse and interrogating the parental desire, which often keeps the child in an infantilized position. Then, a demand on a change in the child's position in relation to his/her own speech is formulated. It is concluded that this articulation can favor the identification of the child with a new speech ideal.
