This article is the result of research that investigates the three-dimensional (3D) modeling of historic buildings using different LOD (Level Of Detail) configurations. In the context of virtual heritage, the creation of 3D models requires time, technical knowledge, investments, and above all, planning. The LOD, in this case, acts directly on the construction, representation, and processing of the produced models. This study has the main objective of investigating how the LOD interfered the process of virtual reconstruction of a historic building located in Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The methodology used made use of the combination of bibliographic and experimental research. The semantic logic technique was used. The 3D modeling of the building was developed in five different LODs, each linked to the semantic structures of the investigated architecture. From this, four data related to the modeling of each LOD were collected: file size, modeling time, rendering time, and the amount of model data. Subsequently, these data were compared. The experiment demonstrated a direct relationship between the workflows and the LODs of the models. It is believed that when investigating the 3D modeling process, it is possible to support future works in the area, as well as to expand discussions on theoretical-practical issues aimed at the construction of 3D models of historic buildings.
