Author Guidelines

Form and Preparation of Manuscripts

Contributions to Revista de História must abide to the following specifications:

1. All texts must be presented as digital files compatible with Word for Windows. Images files must have a minimum resolution of 300 dots per inch (dpi).
2. The following information about the author must be listed before the text: full name, institutional affiliation, academic titles, name of academic supervisors, institutional or residential address, and email contact. The author must also declare if  the text being submitted has not been published before (or if it is published in Scielo preprint) and is not going through any evaluation process by another periodical or collection.
3. In case the research has received financial support from any institution, this sponsorship must be mentioned.
4. Translations must include the original text and author’s agreement.

Contributions to Revista de História must strictly follow the specifications listed below:

RH publishes articles, reviews and critical document editions.

All contributions must be typed using Times New Roman font, size 12, with 1.5 spacing between lines.

1. RH publishes articles in Portuguese, English, French and Spanish, original and unpublished (except if published in Scielo preprint) or translated papers. The articles must be 15 to 30 pages long, accompanied by an abstract (5 lines maximum) and 3 keywords. Abstract and keywords must be presented in Portuguese and English. All notes must be placed as footnotes.
2. Translated articles must include the original text and author’s agreement.
3. Critical editions of document must follow the same specifications of the articles.
4. RH publishes reviews in Portuguese and Spanish. The book reviewed must have been published within the last 2 years, for books published in Brazil, or 4 years for those published abroad – to be counted from the date of submission. Book reviews must be 5 to 7 pages long.
5. In all contributions, the first page of the digital file should contain the author’s identification (full name, institutional affiliation, academic titles etc.).
6. If any financial support has been received, the sponsoring institution must be mentioned.
7. If authors are Brazilian or professionally active in Brazil, they must be registered at the Curriculum Vitae Lattes network.
8.  Submissions must be sent by email (revistahistoria@usp.br), duly formatted according to these “Publication Guidelines”. RH’s office will send authors an email confirming that the files have been received. Files must be compatible with Word for Windows.
9. Authors who have their contributions published will receive by mail two copies of the corresponding issue.
10. Quoting format for footnotes and bibliographical references (cf. ABNT-NBR 6023):

Documents:
Author. Type of document. Date. Descriptive information followed by comma. Filing information followed by a comma.

Iconographic Material:
Author. Title in italics. Date. Support (painting, print, photograph, etc), all additional information followed by a comma.

Cartographic Material:
Author. Title in italics. Place: Publisher, year. Specific designation (atlas, map, aerial photograph). Scale. All additional information followed by a comma.

Sound Material:
Composer or performer. Title in italics. Place: Record company (or equivalent), date. Support, all additional information followed by a comma.

Music Scores:
Author. Title in italics. Place: Publisher, date. Specific designation (1, 2, 3 score). Instrument. All additional information followed by a comma.

Tridimensional Documents:
Author. Title in italics. Date. Object specification (sculpture, fossils, objects, etc.): object characteristics (material, dimensions, description, etc.). Place (Museum, Archive, Private collection, etc.)

Patents:
Responsible entity and/or author. Title in italics. Patent number, date of registration.

For internet texts, the same norms apply, followed by: available at: xxxx. Date of Access: dd/mm/yyyy.

11. The authors are fully responsible for the contents and opinions expressed in their contributions to Revista de História.
